Reaching the Finishing Line Marks a Milestone

On Saturday May 6, 2006 Alisa Webb completed the 7th Annual All American Run at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland. It was the first time that the Cecil County wife, mother of three and teacher had competed in an organized run since High School.  This event marked a significant milestone in Alisa’s long journey of physical and emotional healing.

Alisa, an avid athlete and runner as a teenager, had injured her ankle while playing basketball in high school. After the frustration of 17 surgeries over 17 years, at age 32 she made the life changing choice to undergo amputation surgery. She hoped that it would end the constant pain caused by her irreparable injury.

Following the amputation, Jonas Seeberg, CPO a certified prosthetist and orthotist at Real Life Prosthetics, fitted Alisa with a below-the-knee prosthetic leg. The pain subsided, but her lifelong love of athletics remained strong. Jonas fitted her with a custom made running leg, and Alisa soon found herself running up to seven miles a week.

Now the finish line of the All American Run is behind Alisa. It also is behind her husband Steven and Jonas Seeberg, who ran with her. “They have encouraged me and supported me through everything, so it was amazing for all of us. I don’t know who was more excited— me or my husband or Jonas!” Alisa said. She added, “Running has been one of many passions in my life, and now it has been restored.”
